Reduction of defects and rework in die plate manufacturing using process improvement methodology
Abstract
In the globalized and highly competitive business environment of today, providing high-quality products and services is not only a strength but a survival strategy for businesses. Six Sigma’s DMAIC approach is commonly employed by organizations to improve product quality and process effectiveness. This research illustrates the application of Six Sigma and DMAIC in minimizing defects in a die plate manufacturing process. By systematically determining and resolving the causes of defects like size mismatch, pitch variation, and material quality the research identifies optimal process parameters to reduce defects. Through the structured application of DMAIC, the average rejection rate was effectively brought down to 21%, enhancing the sigma level from 2.95 to 3.07. These results support the efficacy of Six Sigma in process improvement and reduction of defects and highlight the industry’s continued focus on further reducing rejection rates through ongoing improvement efforts.
