Abstract

In the rapidly evolving field of embedded systems, efficient and reliable communication between devices is paramount. The universal asynchronous receiver-transmitter (UART) is a widely used protocol for serial communication, facilitating data exchange between microcontrollers and peripheral devices. This work focuses on the development of a UART device driver using the Zephyr real-time operating system (RTOS) for the Argonaut RISC Core (ARC) microcontroller. The primary objective of this work is to design and implement a UART device driver that can seamlessly integrate with the Zephyr RTOS and efficiently handle serial communication tasks on the ARC microcontroller. The development process involves a thorough analysis of the UART communication requirements, followed by the design and implementation of the driver architecture. Comprehensive testing and validation will be conducted to ensure the driver’s functionality and performance meet the desired standards.
