ImageNation: Synergizing VQGAN and CLIP for high-fidelity text-to-image generation
Abstract
Text-to-image generation bridges natural language processing and computer vision, enabling high-fidelity images from textual prompts. This paper introduces ImageNation, a system integrating Vector Quantized Generative Adversarial Network (VQGAN) and contrastive language-image pretraining (CLIP) with a novel adaptive learning rate scheduler to produce semantically accurate, high-resolution images. The scheduler dynamically adjusts optimization based on CLIP similarity gradients, improving convergence speed and output quality. Implemented with a Flask backend, Next. js frontend, and Docker deployment, ImageNation offers an open-source framework. Compared to DALL•E 2, Stable Diffusion, and Imagen, ImageNation achieves competitive quality with lower computational demands (16GB vs. 32GB RAM). Experimental results show CLIP scores of 0.85–0.90 and FID scores of 20–40, outperforming VQ-VAE-2+CLIP. Applications include creative prototyping and education, advancing multimodal AI research through accessibility and transparency.
