Abstract

Nitrogen and oxygen, the two most abundant gases in the atmosphere, are vital to life on the planet. However, some of the others, which are present in small amounts, should not be disregarded; for example, carbon dioxide (the increase in whose concentration has increased the “greenhouse effect”) and chlorofluorocarbons (which have damaged the ozone layer).
