Unnatural Killers
Abstract
Some chemicals are safe; others are toxic, and their toxicity is not always immediately apparent. Thalidomide is a case of a medication which caused a great deal of harm; eventually it was found to be a medication for the successful treatment of leprosy. Chemicals have long been used as weapons, whether flaming arrows or “Greek fire”. Since the start of the twentieth century, new chemicals have been added to the armoury, whether napalm or nerve agents.
