Abstract

This chapter explores the utilization of metallic nanoparticles (MNPs) in crafting various sensor types. It commences by outlining the distinctive attributes of nanoparticles, including elasticity, melting point, magnetism, diffusivity, grain growth, electrical conductivity, and optical properties. The applications of metal nanomaterials in sensing encompass surface plasmon resonance, electrochemical sensors, colorimetric sensors, surface-enhanced Raman scattering sensors, gas sensors, and magnetic sensors. With the rising demand for portable sensors, there is an increased reliance on metal nanoparticles in their development. Consequently, the chapter emphasizes the pivotal role of nanoparticles in the emerging generation of sensors, particularly portable and wearable ones.
