Abstract

Natural fiber composites (NFCs) represent a compelling area in materials science, harnessing the inherent properties of natural fibers to enhance the mechanical, tribological, thermal, and environmental aspects of composite materials. These composites, defined as heterogeneous substances comprising intimately connected solid phases at a microscopic level, combine the versatility of natural fibers with the structural integrity of composite matrices. Notably, the final qualities and performance characteristics of NFCs are greatly influenced by the matrix and the secondary phases (generally referred to as the reinforcements). This chapter provides a general background of NFCs and an overview of the contents covered in this scholarly work.
