Digital Arithmetic & Logic
Abstract
A good understanding of digital logic can assist the data scientist in optimizing high-performance computing environments. The skill of being able to think through digital logic is essentially problem-solving leverage for breaking complex problems down into simple components of binary logic. Boolean logic is the conceptual basis for digital logic, which takes a binary input, such as 0 or 1, representing true or false, and outputs a binary result. Only a few rules of digital logic are needed for complex decision making by general purpose computers. Arithmetic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, as well as Boolean logic, may be applied to various representations of binary numbers.
