Abstract

As the complexity of radiation therapy planning and delivery continues to evolve, the importance of assessing and ensuring plan quality continues to increase. With these advancements in technology and treatment techniques, ensuring the quality and safety of a treatment plan requires an in-depth understanding of physics principles and clinical requirements. It is important that treatment plans are designed to deliver radiation doses safely and effectively, optimizing tumor control while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissues. This chapter provides guidance on achieving high-quality clinical treatment plans in practice. This chapter begins by defining the essential components of quality in radiation treatment planning, and then discusses how individuals can contribute to achieving and maintaining high-quality radiotherapy plans, as well as how to foster a collaborative culture among various interprofessional groups. Practical considerations for overcoming common challenges are provided, along with guidance on the ongoing support needed to uphold quality standards amid rapidly evolving radiotherapy planning technologies.
