Abstract

Once the decision is made to install a computed tomography (CT) equipment, various options to finance this, such as renting, leasing, or buying the equipment, exist. A forecast needs to be made on the reasonable number of ‘patients’ to be examined by the new equipment. According to the budget size, there is the option to buy a new CT or a second-hand one from a vendor company, broker, or even directly from a hospital. Various models are possible, but the Total Cost of Ownership model gives a realistic indication of the investment. This chapter looks at the direct and indirect costs associated with installing a CT. Then, there is a focus on the different models of CT scanners available, which have developed from axial CT (CAT) to helical (or spiral) CT and recently to wide-area CT.
