Abstract

This chapter describes language and linguistic diversity, its benefits and drawbacks, and gamification’s potential solutions in engaging with the workforce at workplaces. Language and linguistic diversity in the context of this chapter refers to languages and dialects spoken in a community, region, or country. Linguistic diversity can improve communication, cognition, job prospects, cultural awareness, and heritage. However, limited resources, stigma, discrimination, language barriers, and linguistic imperialism can make linguistic diversity difficult, which affects employee engagement. Applying gamification as an effective strategy can be a vital step in overcoming these obstacles. Gamification helps ease understanding and engagement by making things more accessible, inclusive, interactive, and fun by adding rewards, leaderboards, personalized learning paths, 134 cultural immersion, language exchanges, and community-building activities. Gamification also promotes cross-cultural understanding, linguistic diversity, and social cohesion by exposing people to different cultures and lifestyles. This sensitization eases the interactions and, in turn, employee engagement. This chapter emphasizes the importance of language and linguistic diversity. It discusses how gamification-based solutions can be used for the challenges faced due to the lack of sensitivity toward language diversity. Promoting linguistic diversity and fostering a more inclusive and equitable society can create a world where linguistic and cultural differences are celebrated and respected.
