Abstract

ZnO-SnO 2 nanocomposite has garnered the attention of the researchers and the scientific community due to its applications in various optoelectronic devices. In this chapter, the potential application of ZnO-SnO 2 in heterojunction solar cell has been explored. The effect of bulk properties of the active semiconducting material on the important properties of the cell, including power conversion efficiency (PCE), open circuit voltage (V oc ), and short circuit current density (J sc ) was studied thoroughly with special focus on material work function (WF) since WF tuning significantly affects semiconductor device performance due to the creation of potential barriers at the junction interfaces. It is observed that for the variation of WF from 4.6 to 4.0 eV, the J sc insignificantly increased from 0.59 to 32.65 mA/cm 2 , whereas the V oc significantly enhanced from 0.62 to 0.65 V, resulting in 210 the enhancement of the PCE of the cells from 4.43 to 17.56%. The present study can be very beneficial for the solar photovoltaic market.
