Investigation of Antihyperlipidemic Activity of Trapa bispinosa Fruit Peel Extract on HFD-Induced Mice Model
Abstract
Disease-associated cardiovascular problems are the foremost cause of lethality in the world, and people having hyperlipidemia are at twice the risk of developing cardiovascular disease as compared to those with normal lipid levels. Therefore, early detection and cure are necessary to reduce cardiovascular events and sudden deathblow. The present study aims to investigate the lipid-lowering potential of plant Trapa bispinosa . The antihyperlipidemic potential of methanolic extract of Trapa bispinosa (family—Lythraceae) fruit peel has been evaluated in a high-fat diet-induced mice model using different in vitro and in vivo parameters. Lipid profile, body weight, and liver weight parameters have been assessed in control and diseased animals. The results of phytochemical screening 136 revealed the presence of secondary metabolites in the extract, including alkaloids, saponins, glycosides, steroids, flavonoids, tannins, and phenols. The results of the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and superoxide free radical scavenging assay suggest the antioxidant potential; moreover, biochemical estimations and the histopathological evaluation confirm the antihyperlipidemic potential of the extract. Thus, all the results confirm the lipid-lowering potential of the methanolic extract of Trapa bispinosa fruit peel in high-fat diet-induced hyperlipidemia in mice, proving its therapeutic usefulness in treating hyperlipidemic conditions.
