Abstract

Diarrhea, a prevalent condition with far-reaching implications, poses significant clinical, economic, and humanistic burdens globally. This chapter explores the pivotal role of evidence-based pharmacist care in the preven tion, assessment, and management of diarrhea. Pharmacists contribute significantly to early intervention, appropriate medication use, hydration guidance, and identification of red flags requiring medical referral. Clinically, their involvement improves therapeutic outcomes, reduces complications, and promotes patient safety. Economically, pharmacist interventions lead to cost savings through optimized drug selection, reduced hospital visits, and improved treatment adherence. Humanistically, pharmacists enhance quality of life, empower patients through education, support medication adherence, and increase satisfaction through personalized care. The chapter also discusses existing research evidence on the effectiveness of pharmacist-led interventions in managing diarrhea and highlights key facilitators and barriers to optimal pharmacist involvement. Strengthening the 40 role of pharmacists in diarrhea care ensures a more holistic, cost-effective, and patient-centered approach in modern healthcare systems.
