Abstract

Liver diseases—including alcoholic liver disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, viral hepatitis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma—pose a significant global health burden with profound clinical, economic, and humanistic implications. This chapter explores the vital role of evidencebased pharmacist care in the management of liver diseases, highlighting the positive impact of pharmacists’ interventions across clinical outcomes, healthcare costs, and patient quality of life. Clinically, pharmacists contribute to early detection, medication therapy optimization, prevention of druginduced liver injury, and improvement in treatment adherence and disease outcomes. Economically, their involvement reduces hospitalizations, enhances cost-effectiveness through rational drug selection and monitoring, and minimizes treatment-related complications. From a humanistic perspective, pharmacists elevate patient education, support self-management, and increase satisfaction and trust in care. The chapter also presents current research, facilitators, barriers, and practical recommendations to enhance 88 pharmacist-led care. Integrating pharmacists into liver disease management not only strengthens multidisciplinary care but also aligns with the goals of achieving safer, more effective, and patient-centered outcomes.
