Abstract

Evidence-based pharmacist care plays a pivotal role in optimizing outcomes for patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) across clinical, economic, and humanistic domains. This chapter synthesizes high-quality evidence demonstrating how pharmacists’ interventions—such as individualized drug regimen adjustments, therapeutic drug monitoring, and proactive adverse-event management—lead to improved disease control, reduced flares, and enhanced functional status. Economically, pharmacistled strategies (e.g., timely generic substitutions, dose optimization, and adherence programs) have been shown to lower medication costs, prevent hospitalizations, and reduce overall healthcare utilization. From a humanistic perspective, structured patient education, shared decision-making, and ongoing counseling foster self-efficacy, treatment satisfaction, and quality-of-life gains. We appraise randomized trials, cohort studies, and cost-effectiveness analyses to delineate best practices and implementation frameworks, identify key facilitators and barriers, and propose metrics 56 for measuring pharmacist impact. By integrating clinical evidence with economic and patient-centered outcomes, this chapter offers a comprehensive roadmap for embedding evidence-based pharmacist care into RA management.
