Abstract

Evidence-based pharmacist care drives improved outcomes in connective tissue disorders (CTDs) across clinical, economic, and humanistic domains. CTDs are characterized by complex pathophysiology, frequent comorbidities, and lifelong therapeutic needs. The economic burden—comprising direct medical expenses, productivity losses, and caregiving costs—is substantial, while humanistic challenges include diminished quality of life, psychological distress, and reduced social participation. Pharmacistled interventions encompass individualized medication optimization, therapeutic drug monitoring, and proactive management of adverse effects; patient education, adherence support, and shared decision-making; comprehensive screening for drug–drug interactions; and cost-containment strategies such as timely generic substitution and patient-assistance programs. High-quality evidence from randomized trials, cohort studies, and cost-effectiveness analyses demonstrates that these interventions enhance disease control, decrease healthcare utilization, lower medication 92 costs, and elevate patient satisfaction and self-efficacy. Interdisciplinary collaboration, utilization of digital health tools, and targeted professional development facilitate implementation, whereas regulatory constraints, time pressures, and reimbursement limitations pose barriers. Standardized metrics and implementation frameworks are recommended to expand and evaluate pharmacist impact in CTD management.
