Abstract

Skin infections are common and can range from superficial to lifethreatening conditions, often requiring timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment. This chapter highlights the role of evidence-based pharmacist care in managing skin infections from clinical, economic, and humanistic perspectives. Pharmacists contribute to improved clinical outcomes through early recognition, appropriate selection of topical and systemic antimicrobials, monitoring for adverse drug reactions, and ensuring treatment adherence. Economically, pharmacist interventions reduce the overall healthcare burden by promoting cost-effective treatments, preventing complications, and minimizing hospitalizations. Humanistically, pharmacists improve patient quality of life by addressing concerns related to the physical and psychological effects of skin infections, offering counseling, and enhancing satisfaction with care. The chapter also discusses barriers to optimal pharmacist involvement and emphasizes the need for collaborative practices and continued education. Ultimately, integrating pharmacists into skin infection management strengthens healthcare systems and supports patient-centered outcomes.
