Abstract

Eczema, a chronic inflammatory skin condition, imposes a substantial burden on patients, encompassing clinical, economic, and humanistic dimensions. This chapter explores the vital role of pharmacists in the evidence-based management of eczema. Pharmacists contribute significantly to improving clinical outcomes through medication optimization, trigger avoidance education, adherence support, and early identification of complications. Their interventions reduce the frequency and severity of flare-ups, enhance symptom control, and minimize treatment-related risks. Economically, pharmacists support cost-effective care by promoting appropriate drug use, preventing adverse reactions, and minimizing unnecessary healthcare utilization. Their guidance on over-the-counter products and generic alternatives alleviates financial strain on patients and health systems. On a humanistic level, pharmacists enhance quality of life by addressing psychosocial challenges, reducing stigma, empowering patients through education, and improving satisfaction with care. Despite systemic barriers such as time constraints and reimbursement issues, pharmacist-led interventions are central to comprehensive eczema care, offering holistic, accessible, and patient-centered support that improves therapeutic outcomes and overall well-being.
