Abstract

Acne is a prevalent dermatological condition with significant clinical, economic, and humanistic consequences. This chapter highlights the multifaceted role of pharmacists in acne management. Clinically, pharmacists contribute to disease prevention, assessment, and treatment through medication counseling, monitoring therapy effectiveness, managing drug interactions, and providing adherence support. Economically, pharmacistled care reduces treatment costs by optimizing medication use, promoting cost-effective therapies, improving adherence, and reducing the need for specialist care. Humanistically, pharmacists help improve patients’ quality of life by enhancing health knowledge, dispelling myths, and addressing emotional and social challenges associated with acne, including reduced self-esteem and mental health burdens. Through their accessible and trusted role, pharmacists empower patients to manage their condition effectively. Despite existing barriers such as time constraints, limited dermatology training, and reimbursement issues, pharmacist interventions in acne care represent a holistic, cost-effective, and impactful strategy for improving patient outcomes across physical, psychological, and economic dimensions.
