Abstract

Warts, caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), are a common dermatological condition with notable clinical, economic, and humanistic burdens. This chapter explores the comprehensive role of pharmacists in wart management. Clinically, pharmacists support identification, recommend appropriate over-the-counter therapies, monitor adherence, educate patients on safe application techniques, and refer complex cases, contributing to improved treatment outcomes and prevention of complications. Economically, pharmacist interventions enhance cost-effectiveness by minimizing unnecessary physician visits, avoiding medication misuse, and promoting prevention strategies such as HPV vaccination. From a humanistic perspective, pharmacists alleviate psychological distress, improve patients’ quality of life, and enhance treatment adherence and satisfaction through counseling and education. Despite certain barriers— such as limited scope of practice, time constraints, and lack of reimbursement—pharmacists remain highly accessible healthcare professionals who provide valuable, evidence-based care for patients with warts. Their interventions positively impact clinical success, economic efficiency, and overall patient well-being.
