Abstract

Burn injuries present a complex burden encompassing clinical, economic, and humanistic dimensions. This chapter explores the critical role of pharmacists in managing burn injuries through evidence-based interventions. Clinically, pharmacists support optimized medication therapy, pain management, infection control, and therapeutic drug monitoring, enhancing healing and reducing complications. Economically, pharmacists help reduce healthcare costs by minimizing medication errors, shortening hospital stays, improving outpatient care, and advocating cost-effective therapies. Humanistically, pharmacists improve patients’ quality of life by providing counseling, promoting adherence, addressing emotional trauma, and enhancing satisfaction with care. Their contributions also influence patient education, empowerment, and reintegration into society. Despite barriers such as limited recognition and training in burn care, pharmacists remain essential members of multidisciplinary teams. Their active involvement ensures a comprehensive, patient-centered approach to burn care, resulting in better therapeutic outcomes and efficient resource utilization. The chapter emphasizes the need for greater integration of pharmacists into burn care teams to maximize clinical impact and health system sustainability.
