Evidence-Based Pharmacist Care (Clinical, Economic, and Humanistic Impact): Nail Disorders
Abstract
Nail disorders, often perceived as cosmetic issues, encompass a wide range of conditions that can significantly affect an individual’s clinical health, financial well-being, and quality of life. Clinically, these disorders include fungal infections, psoriatic nail disease, drug-induced changes, and systemic disease indicators, requiring accurate diagnosis and sometimes prolonged treatment. Pharmacists contribute through early identification, over-the-counter treatment recommendations, therapeutic counseling, and referral for severe cases. Economically, pharmacist interventions reduce the burden by guiding cost-effective treatments, preventing disease progression, promoting adherence, and minimizing avoidable healthcare visits. Humanistically, nail disorders can lead to social stigma, reduced self-esteem, and functional limitations. Pharmacists play a crucial role in patient education, encouraging adherence, correcting misconceptions, and promoting preventative care, thereby improving physical and emotional well-being. As highly accessible healthcare professionals, pharmacists offer evidence-based, patient-centered care that improves clinical outcomes, minimizes costs, and enhances patient satisfaction in managing nail disorders.
