Abstract

Headache is one of the most prevalent neurological conditions globally, carrying substantial clinical, economic, and humanistic burdens. This chapter highlights the essential role of evidence-based pharmacist care in managing headache disorders. Clinically, pharmacists contribute to headache prevention, accurate assessment, optimal medication management, and patient education, which collectively improve treatment adherence and outcomes while reducing complications such as medication overuse headaches. Economically, pharmacist-led interventions result in significant cost savings by guiding appropriate use of over-the-counter and prescription therapies, improving medication adherence, reducing hospital visits, and preventing avoidable complications. From a humanistic perspective, pharmacist care enhances patients’ quality of life by reducing headache severity and frequency, improving health literacy, fostering positive attitudes and practices, and increasing satisfaction through accessible, patient-centered support. The chapter emphasizes pharmacists’ role as 34 integral members of multidisciplinary teams, offering holistic care that spans pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic strategies. Their expertise, accessibility, and personalized interventions position pharmacists as key contributors to improving headache management outcomes across healthcare systems.
