Abstract

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, immune-mediated neurological disorder that imposes significant clinical, economic, and humanistic burdens on patients and healthcare systems. This chapter highlights the 66 pivotal role of pharmacists in providing evidence-based care for individuals living with MS. Clinically, pharmacists contribute to early recognition of symptoms, optimize complex medication regimens, manage side effects, promote adherence, and monitor for disease progression and treatment effectiveness. Their interventions are essential in minimizing relapses and improving long-term patient outcomes. Economically, pharmacist-led care reduces direct and indirect healthcare costs through the prevention of medication-related problems, improved adherence, deprescribing when appropriate, and the recommendation of cost-effective therapies. From a humanistic perspective, pharmacists enhance patients' quality of life by providing personalized counseling, improving health literacy, supporting self-management, and addressing psychosocial challenges.
