Abstract

Anemia is a widespread condition with profound clinical, economic, and humanistic consequences. This chapter explores the pivotal role of evidencebased pharmacist care in the prevention, assessment, and management of anemia. Clinically, pharmacists contribute to accurate diagnosis, optimize medication regimens such as iron supplements and erythropoiesis-stimulating agents, manage drug-related causes, and monitor therapy efficacy and safety. These interventions improve symptom control, reduce complications, and enhance therapeutic outcomes. Economically, pharmacist-led care reduces healthcare costs through medication optimization, prevention of hospitalizations, and improved resource allocation. Pharmacists also enhance cost-effectiveness by recommending appropriate therapies and minimizing drug waste. Humanistically, pharmacists significantly improve patients’ quality of life by reducing fatigue, enhancing daily functioning, improving medication adherence, and providing education and counseling that empower patients in managing their condition. The chapter 108 underscores pharmacists’ value in multidisciplinary teams and emphasizes their role in patient-centered anemia care. Their clinical expertise, accessibility, and personalized interventions make them essential in improving outcomes across all dimensions of anemia management.
