Evidence-Based Pharmacist Care (Clinical, Economic, and Humanistic Impact): Coagulation Disorders
Abstract
Coagulation disorders, including hemophilia, Von Willebrand disease, and thromboembolic conditions, represent significant clinical, economic, and humanistic challenges. This chapter highlights the critical role of pharmacists in providing evidence-based care to optimize outcomes for patients with coagulation disorders. Clinically, pharmacists enhance prevention, assessment, medication management, and patient education, leading to better disease control, reduced complications, improved adherence, and minimized morbidity and mortality. Economically, pharmacist interventions contribute to substantial cost savings by preventing adverse drug events, optimizing anticoagulant use, reducing hospital readmissions, and promoting cost-effective therapy choices. From a humanistic perspective, pharmacists improve quality of life by enhancing health knowledge, attitudes, medication adherence, and patient satisfaction. Their accessibility and patient-centered care foster trust and empowerment, especially in complex conditions requiring lifelong management. This chapter underscores the need for integrating pharmacists into multidisciplinary teams and leveraging digital health tools and artificial intelligence to expand their impact. Pharmacists are vital in improving clinical outcomes, reducing economic burdens, and elevating the overall well-being of patients with coagulation disorders.
