Abstract

This chapter highlights the critical role of pharmacists in evidence-based care for pain management and opioid use disorders (OUD). Pharmacists contribute significantly through medication therapy management, patient education, alternative pain strategies, and collaborative care models. Their involvement in medication-assisted treatment (MAT), opioid misuse moni- toring, and public education enhances clinical outcomes and supports safe opioid use. The chapter explores the facilitators and barriers to pharmacist- led initiatives, including regulatory constraints, scope of practice, and public perception. It also presents innovative models like online pharmacist-led clinics that improve access to care, particularly in underserved areas. Recom- mendations focus on expanding pharmacists’ scope, enhancing interprofes- sional collaboration, leveraging technology, and supporting continuous professional development. By advancing pharmacist-led interventions, healthcare systems can ensure safer, more effective, and patient-centered approaches to managing chronic pain and OUD.
