Abstract

Pharmacists are increasingly recognized as key contributors to evidencebased skin care through their roles in patient education, medication management, and disease prevention. This chapter explores the diverse responsibilities of pharmacists in managing dermatological conditions, including recommending appropriate over-the-counter and prescription therapies, counseling on sun protection, skin hygiene, and advising on treatment adherence. It outlines the essential skills and competencies required for effective dermatologic care—such as clinical knowledge, cultural competence, critical appraisal, and interprofessional collaboration. Recommendations for advancing pharmacist proficiency include continuing education, quality improvement projects, research involvement, and the integration of digital health tools. As dermatological science evolves, pharmacists must engage in lifelong learning to provide personalized, evidence-based care, ultimately improving patient outcomes and promoting optimal skin health.
