Abstract

Pharmacists are integral to the management and prevention of chest and lung conditions, including asthma, COPD, pneumonia, tuberculosis, and lung cancer. This chapter outlines essential skills and competencies required for evidence-based pharmacist care in respiratory health. Core responsibilities include medication management, patient education on inhaler techniques and adherence, smoking cessation support, immunizations, emergency response, and chronic disease monitoring. The chapter also explores competencies in clinical decision-making, cultural sensitivity, interprofessional collaboration, and the use of digital health tools. Recommendations for professional development span continuing education, simulation training, telehealth engagement, and active involvement in quality improvement and research. By adopting a patient-centered, evidence-based, and interdisciplinary approach, pharmacists can significantly enhance respiratory health outcomes, reduce healthcare burdens, and advance their role in pulmonary care across diverse healthcare settings.
