Abstract

The coastal forest of Eastern African ecoregion extends from Somalia through Kenya, Tanzania to Mozambique, and falls within the Zanzibar-Inhambane regional mosaic. The climate of coastal areas varies from place to place in accordance with geographical location, altitude, relief, and vegetation cover. In general, along the coast, the mean annual rainfall varies from 500 to 2500 mm. Dryness is the most characteristic ecological feature of the forest area along the coastal. During these times, even the forest floor can become quite dry. The soil type of the area is, however, formed from marine sediment deposits.
