Abstract

Aquaculture is critical to global food production. The aquaculture sector is currently undergoing new scientific and technological breakthroughs in order to deliver high-quality end products through advancements in nanoscience. The application of nutritional supplements in shellfish and fish for better health management, adding value, and stress reduction is a big frontier of aquaculture studies. Fish, mollusc, and crustacean farming is the world’s leading animal production sector, and the highly integrated fish farming industry may be among the first to incorporate and commercialize nanotechnology products. However, the possible advantages of nanotechnology for aquaculture as well as agriculture must be adjusted against concerns regarding water, soil, and the environment. It is preferable to increase productivity through nanotechnology-driven precision farming and maximize output while minimizing input efforts via better oversight and target-oriented action. Holistic strategies have the ability 330 to enhance food production by incorporating breakthrough technologies and disciplines such as biopharmaceuticals integrated with nanoscience to address existing biological impediments that are presently restricting additional development. This chapter details breakthroughs in nanotechnology in general, as well as these novel possible future avenues that are envisaged to have a significant impact on fisheries and aquaculture.
