Abstract

This chapter focuses on the study of a 5G millimeter wave antenna designed on a low permittivity substrate to achieve high impedance matching. The 5G communication requires complicated infrastructure for its implementation. The congestion at the lower band in the microwave energy band has prompted the FCC to allocate a millimeter bandwidth of 25.0 GHz–70.0 GHz for 5G mmWave. Numerous radiating patch antennas within the mmWave band have been reported with radiating shapes such as square, slotted circular, orthogonal slotted patch, Y-shaped slotted patch, and so forth. These antennas are transformed into array configurations to achieve high gain and are also converted to MIMO configurations intended for information and communication technology to achieve spatial diversity. The MIMO technology antenna array achieves high isolation by placing the radiating elements in an orthogonal sequence, at an angle of 180°, by using etched rectangular strips in the ground, or by using novel decoupling parasitic elements. Future mobile users will experience much faster communication with the development of 5G technology.
