Abstract

Cybersecurity risk management is currently challenged by emerging threats that require novel solutions. This chapter discusses the intersecting nature of artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain as an enhancement to cyber defense capabilities. AI offers threat identification through machine learning-based algorithms, predictive analytics for proactive cyber risk management, and automated incident response. On the other hand, Blockchain provides decentralized cybersecurity through its immutable audit trails, tamper-resistant data integrity, and trusted identity management solutions. Our analyses focus on how AI and Blockchain technologies interact in modern cybersecurity and how they combine to defend against the most sophisticated cyberattacks, such as zero-day attacks, ransomware, and insider attacks. We also focus on specific use cases, such as integrating AI-based behavioral analytics with blockchain-based threat intelligence sharing and utilizing smart contracts for automating governance through security policies. Finally, while this chapter discusses specific use cases of AI and Blockchain in cybersecurity, we will also explore new approaches, such as federated learning, to enhance defense detection’s collaborative and privacy-preserving aspects.
