Abstract

This chapter explores the role of smart grid systems in enhancing the performance, reliability, and sustainability of modern electrical distribution networks. It investigates the integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), including renewable energy and storage systems, into the existing grid architecture. The study emphasizes the bidirectional flow of electricity and information enabled by smart grids, which facilitates real-time monitoring, demand response, and decentralized control. The chapter also discusses optimization strategies for distributed generation placement, energy pricing mechanisms, and load management through intelligent decision systems. By incorporating advanced technologies such as neural networks and Internet of Things (IoT) frameworks, smart grids are positioned as key enablers of both climate change mitigation and adaptation. Overall, the chapter outlines how intelligent grid solutions can contribute to energy efficiency, cost reduction, and enhanced grid resilience.
