Green AI: Digital Frugality
Abstract
This document, prepared by Sylvain Saïghi and his colleagues from the IMS Lab at the University of Bordeaux, discusses the concept of Green AI with a focus on digital frugality. It addresses the growing energy consumption of AI technologies and proposes more sustainable computing paradigms inspired by biological systems. The content covers the architecture of silicon neural networks, the challenges of remote and local computation, and innovative hardware implementations such as event-based computation and memristors. The presentation outlines ongoing projects and future directions for achieving energy-efficient AI systems.
