Early 1970s: “Asphalt Has Today Covered Our Ground”
Abstract
The epilogue addresses how the mid-twentieth-century dynamics charted throughout I’ll Samba Someplace Else continue to unfold in the second decade of the twenty-first century. Those dynamics include official proposals to create additional ethnoracial spaces in neighborhoods like Liberdade, ambitious new urban infrastructure projects that involve dispossession, demolitions, and displacement, and African descendants working to produce spaces of belonging and Black self-determination throughout the city.
