Epilogue
Abstract
The legacy of plastics developed initially by chemical companies for industrial and military applications on practices of self-fashioning femme bodies endures. Today, plastics, including nylon, polyurethane foams, and silicones, continue to shape and affect the body. The epilogue examines this legacy by exploring examples that model the contemporary queering of these materials and the lasting impact of the bombshell. These include the Chromat × Tourmaline ss22 swimwear collection, photographer Ethan James Green’s Bombshell project, YouTube DIY guides to making foam padding, and community-led silicone harm reduction initiatives.
