Introduction
Abstract
The introduction contrasts the state’s triumphant narrative of patrimonial rescue and conservation with Coatlinchan’s residents’ sense of dispossession, as the prehistoric stone found there was moved to Mexico City. It sets forth the arguments of the book through the concept of “aftershocks,” showing theft to have lasting negative and generative effects.
