Abstract

Online feminist culture is a central element of contemporary feminism. This chapter introduces the project underpinning the book, investigating the politics of online feminism. It explains the ethnographic, affective, and longitudinal methods employed to understand how young feminists make sense of feminism, in a cultural moment where the logics of social media permeate everyday life. We meet the young feminist interviewees who enliven the book, such as Alice, who agonizes over the difficulty in “not reproducing patriarchy” in her relationships, her career aspirations, and her life. The principal theoretical contributions of the book are introduced, including the conceptualization of online feminist knowledge cultures, and the analysis of how intersectionality is practically translated.
