Introduction
Abstract
The introduction, “Getting Lost in the Dark,” articulates this book’s key investments: securitization, Black insecurity, and speculation, arguing that these terms are intimately related. Deploying the figure of the nebula and examining Victor LaValle’s graphic novel Destroyer (2017), “Getting Lost in the Dark,” explains that worldbreaking is a central narrative mode Black speculative fiction employs to comment on and disrupt the worldmaking power of securitization.
