Conclusion
Abstract
The conclusion, “The Stars Are Closer,” engages Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) to explore how grief and loss order the notions of Black insecurity and worldbreaking that have been at the core of Breaking the World. Here, the author answers three related questions: (1) how do we locate Black loss and grief in the ongoing project of Black worldmaking; (2) how do we recognize and represent the implicit relation between Blackness and securitization in a world where Black threat remains paramount; and (3) ultimately, what do connections between speculation and insecurity reveal about Black life and living in the present? The author uses Wakanda Forever to show that worldbreaking is an important process for understanding how to make a better world.
