Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To establish a 3D metal printing technology for the anterior oral approach to the atlas-axis spondylolis anatomical steel plate system. METHODS: Atlas-axis spondylolis anatomical steel plate internal fixation system was established by using finite element software such as Mimics UG, Abaqus, and Hypermesh in oral approach and different directional loads were applied to observe the finite element cloud images of the plate and screws. RESULTS: The Mises stress of the titanium alloy steel plate were 15.82, 16.16, 17.51, 15.58 MPa, and the Mises stress of the titanium alloy screw were 30.95, 40.69, 38.07, 32.03 MPa in the flexion, extension, lateral bending and torsion condition. The highest stress of the titanium alloy screw occurred in the extension condition. The maximum stress of oral approach to the atlas-axis spondylolis steel plate system was located at the combined hole position of bilateral atlantoaxial screws and steel plates under four conditions. CONCLUSION: Finite element analysis reveals that a custom-designed 3D-printed anterior plate system for the atlantoaxial segment is capable of providing adequate and stable fixation, providing a biomechanical basis for clinical application to the atlas-axis spondylolis steel plate in oral approach.
