Abstract

The rapid pace of urbanization coupled with severe impacts of climate change, elevates the constant monitoring of greenspace availability to a top priority. Fortunately, technological advances in earth observation data processing and storage, allow for much more efficient monitoring than before. The quantification of greenspace exposure, i.e. access of population to greenspace, during the past two decades in the largest Greek cities reveals a clear pattern. Cities are becoming greener and greenspace equality, in terms of access to greenspace, is improving through time. However, any interpretation of trends needs to account for the globally observed greening pattern, combined with local conscious greening policies.
