Abstract
TEOFIL KACZOROWSKI (1830-1889) – A POZNAŃ-BASED DOCTOR AND DISCOVERER OF THE CAUSAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PERIODONTAL INFECTION AND SYSTEMIC DISEASES Teofil Wawrzyniec Kaczorowski (1830-1889) was a distinguished 19th-century physician from Poznań, best known in medical history as the discoverer of the causal relationship between periodontal infection and systemic diseases. His research, published in 1884, preceded by several years the work of Willoughby D. Miller (1853-1907), who was mistakenly credited with this discovery. Kaczorowski, a highly educated and dedicated medical scientist, authored several epidemiological reports and was also involved in surgical treatments and therapies for various diseases. He was a physician who embraced innovative solutions and the latest medical research findings. Privately, he was the father-in-law of the poet Adam Asnyk. This article presents a detailed biography of Kaczorowski, clarifies inconsistencies found in the existing literature, and provides an analysis of his scientific contributions.
