Ultrasound-Guided Pharmacopuncture for Supraspinatus Tendinopathy: Two Clinical Cases
Abstract
This case report describes two patients with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-confirmed supraspinatus tendinopathy who received ultrasound-guided pharmacopuncture targeting the subacromial-subdeltoid bursa twice weekly for 6 weeks.Outcomes were assessed using the numeric rating scale (NRS), active range of motion (ROM), Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI), EQ-5D-5L.Both patients showed substantial clinical improvement: by week 6, NRS scores decreased to ≤ 1; ROM returned to normal or near-normal levels; SPADI and EQ-5D-5L scores improved markedly. No adverse events were reported.Although MRI at week 7 demonstrated no structural changes, clinical outcomes clearly improved. These findings suggest that ultrasound-guided pharmacopuncture as monotherapy is effective in alleviating pain and restoring function in supraspinatus tendinopathy.
