Abstract
Summary Threatened everyday life. Urban legends from the perspective of individual psychology and folkloristic narrative research This article looks at urban legends with the help of individual psychological and cultural-historical approaches. Following a research overview of legends and urban legends, three examples are used, and two of them are interpreted in more detail. It is shown that there are broad overlaps between the sceptical world view of individual psychology and the (urban) legend, especially regarding the psychodynamics between the need for security and the insecurity of everyday life.
