Abstract

In this paper, we will examine some ceramic fragments found during one of the first excava tion campaigns carried out at the site of Tusculum (Monteporzio Catone, Rome), where the Escuela Española de Historia y Arqueología en Roma-CSIC has been conducting an archaeological project since 1994. The recent reorganization and updating of the Tusculan ceramic catalogue has in fact made it possible to enhance and observe in a different light a numerically limited but particularly interesting group of imported ceramics, found near the church of S. Agata located on the southern extra-urban promontory of the site. The provenance of these pieces which, according to the excavation documentation, were found in stratigraphies pertaining to the destruction of an elevated structure interpreted as a bell tower, leads us to reflect on their possible use as “bacini” and, more generally, on the value that such objects could have had at the time. Just a suggestion?
