Em que crê quem não crê? Possível paralelismo entre Saramago e Kazantzakis
Abstract
The Gospel According to Jesus Christ by Saramago and The Last Temptation of Christ by Kazantzakis deal with the same figure, but in quite different ways. Although infinitely different in their belief in God, both authors reveal a common desire: to correct earthly misdeeds by giving literary form to a humanised Christ, much closer to this world than the Gospels reveal; in both cases, the divine and the diabolical come dangerously close, suggesting how easy it is for man to act amorally ‘in the name of’ something he doesn't control, but uses as a weapon of power: what Saramago called ‘the God factor’. Despite this distant God, both writers seem to say that there is an ethical way out for man, to which they point.
