Abstract

Giorgio Colli’s work shows a path into pre-Socratic thought, into what he stresses to be ‘wisdom’ and not ‘philosophy’. A wisdom that is for us at the limits of understanding because its context, its possibilities of experience, its whole world have disappeared according to an irreversible movement. Yet it is from here that the logos-ratio-reason originates. In its motion, it comes to its current configuration as a calculating and classifying operation. In order to understand this process, the works of Colli are precious, also seen from a comparative point of view with Heidegger, who (in the wake of Nietzsche, like Colli) looks towards the preSocratic world. By analysing Colli’s writings (from his dissertation up to his posthumous books), and by engaging Heideggerian themes (without, however, losing the focus, which is Colli’s own thought), I will develop the question of the entry to pre-Socratic thought that Colli offers, the emergence of logos, and the prospect of new possibilities for thought that that entry could perhaps still activate, despite its extreme, irreducible distance.
